Local residents of the village of Achnacroish, on the isle of Lismore, have formed the Achnacroish Water Group to share the costs of maintenance and upgrades to their community private water supply system.
While the primary school in Achnacroish has its own Scottish Water-managed borehole, all surrounding properties, including council-owned social housing, rely on a single private water supply from a burn.
Urgent priorities include improving the condition and size of existing piping, and improving performance at the abstraction point by clearing vegetation and sediment buildup.
Achnacroish Water Group is keen to meet with and learn from other community groups how they might have improved and increased the capacity of a collective water supply.
